The Great Food Pantry Experiment continues to grow and evolve! As of this week, we have been able to schedule lead volunteers for the evening hours, so our experiment will now run until 7:00 p.m. in the evenings.
|
This is an incredible opportunity to us to learn how we can best serve our neighbors who need help. As we learned from the 2026 United Way ALICE Report, 44% of Broome County and approximately 62% of the City of Binghamton lives below the affordability line. This line is fluid, based on circumstance (so what is defined as "affordable" for a single individual is less than that for a family of four). You can read more about this, here.

Please sign up for a shift during the month-long experiment. You can find a link to this, here. The better information we have about when the pantry is most used, the better the plan we can make about how to structure it moving forward.

To those who stayed last Sunday to help unload the trailer from Classy Rustics, THANK YOU! The donations we were waiting on from Red Cross eventually showed up on Tuesday (see below!), and today we received another 50 bags of clothes from City Church.
|
Make sure next Sunday, July 12 is on your calendar as a Second Sunday of Service. We have PLENTY of clothes to fold.

Katie’s Closet - This ministry is flourishing with an increasing amount of both patrons and donations!! As a result, we find we are in need of more volunteer staff. It is an extremely fulfilling opportunity for anyone who enjoys giving back to the community. It is entirely possible to volunteer for as little as an hour a month. The Lay Preaching Program is now accepting applications for the 2026–2028 program years. Licensed lay preachers serve in a supply capacity for congregations throughout the diocese.
Taught by the Rev. Dr. Rebecca Drebert and the Very Rev. Dr. Scott Parnell, this rigorous two-year formational program meets four times per year at St. James' Episcopal Church in Skaneateles. The curriculum includes biblical studies and exegesis, Episcopal/Anglican polity, theology, and homiletical structure. Additionally, participants are paired with a personal preaching mentor and deliver four sermons annually in a congregational setting.
Those interested in applying for the upcoming cohort should email Canon David Stickley at dstickley@cnyepiscopal.org for more information. The application deadline is August 9.
