The Weekly E-news of Christ Episcopal Church, Binghamton, New York

Committed to Service + Formed by the Faith + Centered on Worship

From the Rector's Desk

Beloved,

This Sunday is a Second Sunday of Service for our parish. It is a time to gather together and give of our time to the glory of God. This month, we have a number of projects to work on:

Labeling Bottles for Windex and Lysol
We will be applying labels on plastic spray bottles for Lysol and Windex (and then decanting the Windex into those spray bottles) These will be given away as part of our Hygiene Pantry.

Assembling Nolaxone Kits
We will have an assembly line for Naloxone kits. Once they are assembled, we'll restock the purple safety boxes outside Katie's Closet and the Metrocenter Ramp.

Preparing Winter Warmth Bags
We are beginning to receive donations for our Winter Warmth Project. We will begin assembling bags to be hung on the railing.

As you can tell - lots going on this weekend! Please join us as we work together as a community, for our community.

Faithfully,

Scott+

Announcements

Bible Study - Our fall Bible Study resumes next Thursday. We will be studying The Parable of the Weeds (Matthew 13:24-30).

Winter Warmth Project - If you are interested in supporting this year's winter warmth project, consider purchasing one of these items, here. They are shipped directly to the Church. Notice - if you purchase these, it will show you that it will be sent to "Scott Parnell in Binghamton NY" -- this is the correct thing.

October's Second Sunday of Service - This Sunday, October 12, we will be repackaging dish soap, Windex, and 409 to be given our with our Neighborhood Basics Hygiene Project. The bottles will need to be filled and labeled -- a great task for an assembly line! We will also have Naloxone kits that need to be stuffed.

St. Andy's Workday - On October 20 at 10:00 a.m., we will have our next St. Andy's workday at the Church. We will be removing AC units, replacing ceiling tiles, and painting the Chapel. Please email Susan MacLennan at standys@christchurchbinghamton.org to let us know you're planning on coming.

"See Me, Hear Me, Treat Me" - Save the date of Sunday, October 25 at 4:00 p.m. as we join with Trinity-Memorial to hear information gathered at a recent listening session on the experience of homelessness in Broom County. In addition to the presentation, we will be celebrating the arrival of Trinity-Memorial's new Priest-in-Charge, the Rev. Cole Gruberth.

All Soul's Requiem - Save the date of Monday, November 2, as we mark All Souls Day with the Episcopal Congregations of the Southern Tier. This service will be a traditional requiem, with an abbreviated homily and time for reflective prayer. Parishioners from across the Southern Tier congregations will offer short reflections on the challenges of our times. This will be a time to lay bare your concerns, fears, anxieties, and griefs and offer them up to God.

Flooring in the Chapel - A few folks have asked about carrying the LVP that is in the chapel throughout the upper level of the parish house (the hallway outside the chapel and towards the elevator, as well as the Great Hall). We reached out to the folks who did the work, and they estimate it to be just over $32,000. If you are interested in supporting this in the future, please let Fr. Scott know.

Ministry Opportunity - If you are interested in corresponding with a lonely incarcerated individual (that used to spend a lot of time on our Green Space), please let Fr. Scott know.

Katie’s Closet - This ministry is flourishing with an increasing amount of both patrons and donations!! As a result, we find we are in need of more volunteer staff. It is an extremely fulfilling opportunity for anyone who enjoys giving back to the community. It is entirely possible to volunteer for as little as an hour a month. Please prayerfully consider joining us in our very much needed mission. Diane Button - the volunteer coordinator - can be contacted at katiescloset@christchurchbinghamton.org.

Christ Church Shirts - If you would like to order a Christ Church t-shirt (short or long sleeve), you can order one here (and have it shipped directly to your house)!

GARDENING

Our Tuesday night gardening had ended since it gets dark early now. Thank you everyone who helped us this season. We accomplished a lot and the grounds look great. Leaf raking comes next so if anyone is available for that task we would welcome your help. We’ll send out a notice to announce when we plan to rake.

Thank you, Sue and Barb
